7How My Five Year Mission Came to Be…

Like you, I hear about how our families are in crisis…

You can’t avoid the headlines and you certainly can’t ignore the science that consistently shows that the foods you, your kids, and your family are eating are causing sicknesses, stomach issues, and weight gain at an alarming rate.

I wanted to do something about it…

So when my children were one and three, I decided to educate myself on the best and healthiest foods that I should be feeding them. During the five years that followed I literally read over three dozen nutrition books, all types of clinical studies, and spent thousands of hours in the kitchen experimenting with new ingredients to create healthier versions of the most popular meals that my family enjoys.

Five years, dozens of books and studies researched, and hundreds of healthy recipes later, I’m in a position to share with you all that I’ve discovered on how to cook and serve family friendly fat burning meals that your family will love and that you can feel good about serving them.

It’s no surprise that new medical science is finding that gluten, dairy, and table sugar are the top three toxic ingredients that are found in many kitchens across the country.

And science is now pointing to the fact that diseases such as high blood pressure, joint aches and swelling, childhood diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, constant fatigue, obesity, and a laundry list of other very serious ailments are mainly a byproduct of overconsumption of gluten, dairy, cane sugar and overly processed foods.

Think about that for a moment… eating six times more of anything is going to make you sick. That’s just common sense. But they keep packing this junk into your foods because next to sugar, gluten is one of the cheapest fillers and additives used as a “filler.”

That’s what sparked my passion to transform traditional family dinners into healthy, wholesome, real food, fat burning recipes.

Like I said, it’s a well-known fact that today’s generation of children have a shorter life expectancy than we, their parents, do. How could this be true, since medical technologies are more advanced than ever?

Simple. At the rate that our society is going our children are at higher risk of becoming obese, and at an earlier age. The facts and statistics are staggering! With obesity comes an increased risk of all the obesity-related diseases and complications: type 2 diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure and cancer.

This translates into a less vibrant life riddled with complicated health concerns that can ultimately culminate in heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, amputations, blindness, and death at an early age.

I first heard this fact in 2005, the year that I became a parent with the birth of my son, Andrew. Learning this fact, as I held my tiny little bundle, awakened a fire within me to do whatever I could to protect him from the fate of a shortened life riddled with health issues that plagued this new generation of children.

The doctors and researchers were all pointing to childhood obesity as the problem, so I spent months reading book after book on the subject. What I discovered was that, while exercise does play a part in obesity prevention, the major issue at hand is nutrition. In fact, that’s the single biggest determining factor as it relates to obesity in children.

What we feed our kids significantly influences their health, quality of life, and ultimately their lifespan.

Clearly we, as a society, are doing something very, very wrong when it comes to family nutrition. When all the experts are pointing their fingers to nutrition as the smoking gun, it makes sense to take a closer look at the foods you put on your child’s plate and in front of your family.
